The Foreigners of the Oscars January 23–February 2, 2025

Leading up to the 97th Academy Awards, Istanbul Modern Cinema presents a selection of films from the “Best International Film” category. This exciting category, which showcases the highlights of world cinema, stands out every year as one of the most competitive categories of the Oscars. Representing different countries and cultures, these films reflect the alternative face of the Oscars and are made up of films coming from outside of Hollywood that have been screened and won awards at various festivals around the world.

The highlights of this year's program include Brazil's Oscar nominee and Venice Film Festival's Best Screenplay winner I'm Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui), Denmark's Oscar nominee The Girl with the Needle (Pigen Med Nalen), and the Latvian animation Flow (Straume), which was shortlisted for the “Best International Film.”
