ARMAND, 2024

Norway | DCP, Color, 117’ | Norwegian, English

Director: Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel

Cast: Renate Reinsve, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, Øystein Røger

Just prior to summer break, an accusation against two boys causes a stir. Fearing that the accusation would spread quickly because of the kinship between Armand—the son of a famous actor—and the other boy involved, school officials quickly summon the parents to a meeting. But this meeting quickly spirals out of control as suspicion, desire, and obsessions run rampant. Featuring a multi-layered performance by Renate Reinsve, Armand is a compelling psychological drama that navigates the murky waters of sexuality and the search for the truth. The director, who is the grandson of Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman, won the “Best First Film” award at Cannes and this powerful film stands out due to its surprising stylistic choices.
