Romania's Oscar submission tells the story of 17-year-old Adi, who becomes the victim of a violent homophobic attack by a local moneylender's sons. However, the aftermath proves even more devastating: Adi is rejected not only by his family but also by the idyllic village community in the Danube Delta he once called home. In his third feature, award-winning actor and director Emanuel Pârvu exposes the narrow-minded and corrupt face of his country, from a priest who cannot accept Adi's identity to a complicit police office.
