Set in Nepal's remote Himalayan Mountain range, this moving film tells the story of Pema, a woman in search of identity and freedom. Belonging to a community where traditions remain unaffected by the modern world, Pema marries Tashi and his two brothers Karma (a priest) and Dawa (a student). But when Tashi fails to return from a trading trip to Lhasa, Pema—who is pregnant—embarks on an arduous journey in search of him. This physical journey through the mountains eventually turns into a spiritual adventure as Pema searches for her own Shambhala—a place of peace and calm. With its visual richness and inner depth, Shambhala presents an original story that touches on both individual and social conflicts.
