Istanbul Modern Cinema brings a selection of 11 films from the Locarno Film Festival, which took place in August, to Istanbul. Celebrating its 77th anniversary, Switzerland's most prestigious film event has carved out a unique space for itself with its focus on innovation in cinema, resisting industry pressures through its selection, style, and activities.
Among the films, almost all of which will have their Turkish premieres, is Toxic (Akiplėša), the debut film by Lithuanian director Saulė Bliuvaitė, and this year's Golden Leopard winner. Other films include Hong Sang-soo's latest work, By the Stream (Suyoocheon), and the animated film Olivia & The Clouds (Olivia & Las Nubes), which explores a Dominican woman's journey through the ghosts of her relationship, with music composed by Cem Mısırlıoğlu.
Also included in the selection is Hanami, a coming-of-age story set on Fogo Island, and the director of the film, Denise Fernandes, will be joining as a guest.
