Various States of Love October 16–26, 2014

Istanbul Modern Cinema continues to bring prominent films from recent German cinema to movie lovers in Istanbul with its selection of Brand New Films from Germany, which has been organized in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Istanbul for the last six years. In films themed around love, which were much acclaimed and received awards in international festivals within the last year, viewers get to see different forms of love and passion, either within the framework of human relationships or within the context of love for art or money. Among films featured in the selection are: “Beloved Sisters” (Die geliebten Schwestern) by Dominik Graf; the entertaining comedy “Superegos” (Über-Ich and Du), which had its premiere at the Berlinale this year and which looks at Germany’s past as well as the relationship of individuals with their own past; and “West” (Westen), which earned its lead actress Jördis Triebel the award for Best Actress both at last year’s Montréal World Film Festival and at the German Film Awards.
