I WAS, I AM, I WILL BE (ES GILT DAS GESPROCHENE WORT), 2019 |
When pilot Marion and her musician partner Raphael travel from Germany to Turkey for their summer vacation, their paths cross with Baran, a young gigolo. From this point onwards, their relationship turns into a game for three. Baran, who is determined to go to Europe, proposes to Marion. Marion, who has always managed to keep her life under control, starts to reconsider everything after learning that she has cancer, and decides to let a stranger intervene with her life for the first time, and accepts Baran’s proposal. Through Ilker Çatak’s lens, this somewhat common pre-arranged marriage story, is transformed into a humorous and dynamic romantic drama that continuously flexes the boundaries drawn by gender roles and monogamous relationships. I Was, I Am, I Will Be features a pure energy that can challenge many of our perceptions of relationships and identities.
