ELECTRICK CHILDREN

Fifteen-year-old Rachel, who is part of a Mormon community in a remote town in Utah, falls in love with a rock song from a cassette tape that she secretly finds and listens to. Believing she was impregnated by the singer of the song, she steals the family truck to go to Las Vegas and find the father of this miracle baby. Her younger brother is also in the back of the truck. Drawing on the director’s own Mormon background, the film includes moments of what could be called magical realism, somewhere between satire and drama. Electrick Children’s main forte is the performance of Julia Garner in the lead role.
