The Swiss artist Renée Levi returned to Istanbul in September 2022 with two exhibitions and a large-scale public installation. Born in Istanbul in 1960, Levi immigrated to Switzerland with her family at the age of 6. For Levi, Istanbul represents her childhood memories and the homeland of her family. A Name and a Place follows the artist's two-week-long exhibition preparations, grand openings, and excursions in Istanbul. It presents Levi's confrontations with her family history, her collaborations with her partner Marcel Schmid, and the artist Janiv Oron. Additionally, it is intertwined with themes of womanhood, immigration, Sephardic heritage, and art production.
