Virunga National Park is located in the depths of the east Congo forest, an environment that hosts great biological diversity as well as being home to the world’s last mountain gorillas. This wild and fascinating park which has been in the UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site list since 1979 is protected by a small group of people including a former child soldier, the care taker of the gorillas and park rangers against armed militia, poachers and dark forces that endeavour to seize Congo’s rich natural resources. Virunga, an effective blend of investigative journalism and nature documentarism, is a riveting reflection of how a group of courageous people go to Africa to establish a better future at the risk of their own lives. This enlightening cinematic representation of the realities of life in Congo presents their extraordinary true story in this forgotten corner of the world.
