Director Maurice Pialat charts the last 67 days of Van Gogh’s life and explores his relationships with his brother Theo, his physician Paul Gachet (the subject of "Portrait of Dr. Gachet", one of the painter’s most famous works), and Gachet’s daughter, Marguerite. The film also lays bare Van Gogh’s mood swings in the face of changing social dynamics. Jacques Dutronc in the role of Van Gogh won the award for "Best Actor" at the 17th César Awards for his performance in this film.
