Mohammad Rasoulof's film consists of four different parts that focus on the officers, the last remaining chain in Iran’s legal system, where the number of death penalties given is the highest in the world today (225 people were executed in Iran in 2019, the year the film was shot). The director, who was forbidden from making films throughout his life, does not discuss the moral dimension of this punishment system, but instead looks at the everyday lives of ordinary people. The film is a testimony to the power of cinema with the dramatic impact of the stories each flowing in different tones. Secretly shot in Iran, the film was awarded the Golden Bear in Berlin last year.
