Having made its world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival, The Teachers’ Lounge is about Carla Nowak, a dedicated teacher of Polish origin, who starts her first job at a high school. When a series of thefts occur at the school, Carla decides to take matters into her own hands, and installs a hidden camera. As the facts are revealed, Carla ends up caught between parents, colleagues, and students in a rigid educational system. Dramatically intense, with an unrelenting pace and delivering a critique of the racism embedded in society, The Teachers’ Lounge is one of the best films of 2023.
