THE PEARL BUTTON (EL BOTÓN DE NÁCAR), 2015
Spain, Chile, France | DCP, Color, 82’ | Spanish
Director: Patricio Guzmán
After Nostalgia for the Light, this time Chilean directorPatricio Guzmán lends an ear to the memory of water, the source of life. As The Pearl Button follows the story of two mysterious buttons which were found in the ocean, it also covers Chile’s dark past, the dictatorship of Pinochet, and the curse of the “white man”. While displaying nature in all its splendor, the documentary also reflects the cruelty of humans toward one another through the indigenous people of Chile.
