The Last Bolshevik (Le Tombeau d’Alexandre)
1993, 120’
Director: Chris Marker
Screening: Sunday, 10 February, 17.00, Thursday, 14 February, 15.00
A tribute to Russian director Alexander Medvedkin (1900-1989), the film tells the life and work of the filmmaker against the backdrop of the Soviet Union. Starting with Medvedkin’s 1934 classic “Happiness” (Schastye) and ranging from his comedies to his bitter war newsreels, Chris Marker draws a panorama of the political, artistic, and moral universe of the director. After all, this filmmaker he admired so much gave the audience “cinema, not films.”
