Like many of Chris Marker’s films, “The Embassy” also crisscrosses between fiction and documentary. Embassy life as depicted by Marker merely consists of a fleeting moment detached from the exterior world. The film shows political dissidents who try to escape a military coup in an unidentified country by seeking refuge in the embassy building. As the ambassador and his wife arrange to house and feed this group an anonymous cameraman records the tense situation.
