Painting a moving portrait of three young people trapped in their own existential crises and suffering from loneliness in their own ways, the film tells the story of a warm and unusual love triangle set amidst the beauty of winter in the snow-covered Yanji, on the border between China and North Korea. Described as an impressive and free-spirited Generation Z drama from its cinematography to its acting, The Breaking Ice is directed by Anthony Chen, known for Ilo Ilo, the first Singaporean film to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival, which was also featured in “The Foreigners of the Oscars” program in 2013.
