Calling to mind the current refugee crisis, the film follows six people who secretly cross the border on a train from Germany into Switzerland, which severely limited the entry of refugees during World War II. Finding themselves in an isolated corner of the country, they convince a couple to help them. Though this group of four Jews, a French child, and a German soldier are not related in any way, they introduce themselves as a family. The deception is soon revealed and the authorities will now decide who can stay and who will be deported.
