İskenderiyeliler (The Alexandrians), 95’, Slovenia
Director:Metod Pevec
The Alexandrians focuses on a painful emigration in which women almost exclusively played the leading role. The film tells the sad story of Slovenian women who, due to poverty and the fascist assimilation policy prior to World War II, went to work as wet nurses, nannies, and maids to Alexandria, which at the time was a rich and cosmopolitan city. Their intriguing and sometimes tragic stories show the challenges to which women can sometimes rise at a time when feminism was not even a word.
