Iranian-Australian director Noora Niasari's debut feature film, based on her own experiences, stars Zar Amir Ebrahimi, who won the Award for “Best Actress” at Cannes. Shayda wants to make a new start by escaping from the life she shares with her daughter Mona and Hossein, her violent husband and Mona's father. Taking refuge in a secret women's shelter, Shayda starts legal proceedings to protect herself from Hossein’s abuse, but Hossein is granted unsupervised visits. As she tries to lead a normal life, Shayda worries that Hossein might take Mona back to Iran. Shayda is a brave women's film that treats its characters with compassion.
