PERMANENT VACATION

PERMANENT VACATION, 1980
USA | 35mm, Color, 75' | English
Director: Jim Jarmusch
Cast: Chris Parker, Leila Gastil, John Lurie

It is the early 80’s, "uncool" is about to invade everywhere. The coolest city and era in history, New York of the 70’s, has come to an end but for the young flaneur Allie, Charlie Parker, Lautréamont and insubordinate romanticism of "living fast and dying young" are still acceptable. No doubt he will find nobility in grandstander attitude and grace in a punky style. Meanwhile John Lurie is playing his saxophone on New York streets. In his first movie Jim Jarmusch tells the transformation of aimlessness into a kind cool purpose for another generation.
