MR. TURNER, 2014
UK, France, Germany | DCP, Color, 150’ | English
Director: Mike Leigh
Cast: Timothy Spall, Paul Jesson, Dorothy Atkinson
In his most recent film, Mike Leigh traces the last 25 years of English artist J.M.W. Turner, one of the precursors of Impressionism in the 19th century. Focusing on the artist’s production process, the film tells about Turner’s bewildering relationships with his father, the mother of his children, and the housekeeper, while also offering us a panorama of the changes in the economy, lifestyle, and culture of London during that period. J.M.W. Turner is played by Timothy Spall who won the award for "Best Actor" at Cannes last year. The film also received four nominations at the Academy Awards.
