The San Andreas Fault connects Southern California to parts of the Middle East and North Africa, where a uniform climate provides ideal growing conditions for date palms. The documentary reflects the struggles of the people who care for the indigenous palm trees and date palms in the face of real estate and border politics. With the texture of 16 mm film, the documentary moves from microscopic plant cells to macro-scale mountains, exploring through personal stories how economics and earthquakes have shaped the land and society.
