Director: M. Caner Alper & Mehmet Binay
Cast:Ece Dizdar, Taner Birsel, Tilbe Saran, Nilüfer Açıkalın
Codirected by M. Caner Alper and Mehmet Binay, known for their film Zenne Dancer, Drawers is also based on a true story, this time taking us on a journey into the depths of a young woman’s mind. On the night of her 32nd birthday, Deniz is seriously injured and taken to hospital where she is put on an intensive rehabilitation program. The flashbacks we watch during her treatment reveal the heavy burdens the young woman had been carrying since her childhood; her conflicts with her father, a stage actor known as “the King”; and her mother’s attempts to sweep all problems under the rug. Centered on themes such as masculinity, motherhood, social rules of morality, honor, and power, the film calls into question the ossified structures of patriarchal society.
