Director Ümit Köreken’s debut feature Blue Bycicle had its world premiere in the Berlinale’s Generation section. The film uses a naïve style to tell the story of a child’s quest for solutions to the injustices of the adult world. Ali lives with his mother and sister and works when he’s not at school, giving all his earnings to his mother. When his platonic love Elif is treated unfairly, Ali is determined to fight for justice in his own way and with the help of his friend Yusuf. A touching drama that treats of universal issues such as democracy, justice, and equality through Ali’s struggle, Blue Bicycle won the awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay at the 53rd Antalya Film Festival’s National Feature Film Competition.
