Barbara

Christian Petzold, 2012, 105’

“Barbara,” which won the award for Best Director at the Berlin Film Festival this year, takes place in East Germany in the 80s. Doctor Barbara, who was first arrested due to problems with the regime, then exiled to the countryside, is decided to escape to the West despite the fact that her every move is being watched. But André, a colleague she meets in the small town to which she has moved, leads her to question her values. Screened in Turkey for the first time at the Istanbul Film Festival, “Barbara” is a cool and mature drama by Christian Petzold, one of the most prominent directors of recent German cinema.
