The expanded theatrical version of Decalogue 5, the film has won many awards including the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The story begins with a disturbed young man killing a taxi driver. The murderer is put on trial before the state court. Even though he is defended by an idealist lawyer, he is sentenced to death. With its provocative story and its execution scene portrayed in excruciating detail, the film is the director’s protest against the death penalty.
