Turkey by Magnum

In the exhibition “Turkey by Magnum”, Istanbul Modern exhibited photographs about Turkey by Magnum Photos, one of the most important photographic agencies in the world. The exhibition presented an unusual and poetic vision of Turkey through the eyes of Magnum photographers.

Composed of three sections and taking up the lower floor of the museum, the exhibition brought together works by sixteen photographers from different countries and cultures taken over a wide time period between the 1940s to the present. A wide selection of works in the temporary exhibition gallery showed the "Turkish stories" produced by sixteen photographers over the course of sixteen years from their experiences in the country and individual sensitivities.

The section titled "60 Years of Magnum" in the Photography Gallery showed the history of the agency, photographs which have become milestones in the history of photography, and publications by Magnum. The lower floor of the museum hosted an installation of 16 plasma screens exhibiting important works in the careers of the photographers participating in Magnum by Turkey.
