In the exhibition “After Yesterday”, Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery presented a selection from the photography collection which have been expanding since the inception of the museum. The exhibition displayed the technical and conceptual development of photography in Turkey from the Ottoman era to our day.
Photography, a field of expression undergoing continual change and transformation in modern-day culture, is in a state of natural communication and communion with the masses. Istanbul Modern Photography Gallery exhibited contemporary works that capture and convey this transformation by presenting worldwide developments observed in the photographic realm, influences of art movements on photography, and important examples of photographic art in Turkey from its beginning until today.
The photography collection of Istanbul Modern, the only museum in Turkey containing an independent photography section with its own collection and gallery, includes works ranging from the Ottoman era and the beginning of the Republic to the post 1950’s which formed the basis of Turkish photography in the 1960’s, 1970’s to today.
“After Yesterday” presented, in a comprehensive way, the richness of the past and the present day while also shedding light on the collection’s potential development in years to come.
