"Olafur Eliasson Exhibition Educational Program

In conjunction with the “Olafur Eliasson: Your unexpected encounter” exhibition, Istanbul Modern has designed a special educational program for children and families.

The program, which sheds light on the artist's life and creative processes, consists of exhibition tours for educational institutions and weekend workshops for children and families. The educational program invites you to think about the concepts of nature and culture, to dream and engage in artistic productions by examining the artist's works.

Every weekday except Monday for elementary and middle school education institutions

The program focuses on the exhibition “Olafur Eliasson: Your unexpected encounter” at Istanbul Modern. Accompanied by a museum educator, the program includes an exploration of six different artworks by Eliasson that deal with themes such as light, color, perception, movement, geometry, and the environment. Following the steps of “identification,” “analysis” and “interpretation,” young people experience the techniques of artwork analysis and encounter the artworks.

The program is free of charge.

On weekends for 4–6-year-olds and their families

The program for families begins with an exploration of some of the artworks in the exhibition “Olafur Eliasson: Your unexpected encounter.” In this exhibition tour experience, children, together with their parents focus on the concepts of “light,” “shadow,” “color,” as well as associations and emotions. Inspired by the artist, children design lanterns that illuminate their imagination with the help of their parents.

Organized for a fee within the scope of the Family Art Workshops

On weekends for children 7-10 years old

Inspired by the exhibition “Olafur Eliasson: Your unexpected encounter,” the program invites children to work with natural materials.  After examining some of the artist's works in the exhibition that refer to nature and environmental issues, the workshop uses visual and texture cards that improve the children's visual perception and strengthen their memory. First, they create the compositions on the visual cards with natural materials such as leaves, cinnamon sticks, pinecones, and a variety of other natural materials, then they remove the traces on the texture cards. The program ends with an examination of the compositions drawn with natural materials.

Organized for a fee as part of the weekend workshops
