Love and Music celebrates the most popular film culture from India: Bollywood. Based in Mumbai, the Hindi language film industry was established at the beginning of the 20th century. Song and dance, being the most prominent two features of this kind of filmmaking, Bollywood also revolves around fascinating stories of love, of lovers and families as well as exploring diligently the mythological values of the long and rich history of Indian culture. As the love stories, the music and dancing endure and everlasting from decade to decade, Istanbul Modern Cinema will be delving into a range of Bollywood films from the 1950s to the most recent years, illustrating incredible variations in filmmaking. This exuberant film program of ten films also coincides with St. Valentine’s Day, cherishing the importance of love, music and expression. Among the program great Bollywood actors and directors such as Raj Kapoor, Guru Dutt and Amitabch Bachnan are saluted with their distinct and numerous films.
