TOO MUCH RED

TOO MUCH RED September 19–29, 2024

Istanbul Modern Cinema, inspired by the “Chiharu Shiota: Between Worlds” exhibition, has curated a selection of films where the color red plays a central role in their stories or emotional landscapes. This panoramic selection spans from horror to Japanese history, beginning with the red shoes that lead to a magical realm in the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz. In cinematography, red can act as a character through light or an object, sometimes symbolizing blood and death, and at other times, passion and life.
