HUMAN ANIMAL

HUMAN ANIMAL October 17–27, 2024

Istanbul Modern Cinema presents a program consisting of 12 films that focus on and question the complex relationship between humans and animals. The program explores various themes, from characters transforming into animals to the concept of the "other," the animals within us or in our homes, situations where humans and animals intermingle, and the tendency to attribute the unchanging qualities of human nature to animals, known as anthropomorphism. As we watch the animals, they watch us in return. Sometimes frightening, sometimes thought-provoking, these films, shot in diverse locations from Iran to the Dominican Republic since the 1960s, invite us to rediscover the closeness and distance between humans and animals.
