MON ONCLE, 1958

France | DCP, Color, 117’ | French

Director:Jacques Tati

Cast:Jacques Tati, Jean-Pierre Zola, Adrienne Servantie, Alain Bécourt

Directed, written, produced by and starring Jacques Tati, the film emphasizes the contradiction between a lifestyle that follows traditional moral values and the hustle, bustle and chaos caused by consumer society. It criticizes the American-style consumerism that began in France following World War II, the craze for automobiles, and the vernacular architecture being replaced by cold, modern buildings. The film was shot in a set designed by Henri Schmitt to emphasize the absurdity of the modern architecture that is portrayed.
