The Other View

The Other View October 20–30, 2011

For the 50th Anniversary of the Migration from Turkey to Germany İstanbul Modern Cinema is organizing, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Istanbul, a film selection entitled The Other View. Curated by film critic Engin Ertan, the selection focuses on the ties and cultural exchange between Germany and Turkey within the framework of migration. Centering on the representation of characters from the other country in Turkish and German films made during this era, the selection concentrates, via examples from different genres and stories belonging to different periods, on the idea of how we see and perceive one another. The program opens with Halit Refiğ’s 1969 film I Lost my Heart to a Turk and Jörg Gförer’s 1986 documentary Ganz Unten.
