Another award for Istanbul Modern’s new museum building…

Istanbul Modern is the winner of the “Building of the Year” award in the cultural architecture category 

Starting off 2024 with multiple awards, Istanbul Modern has now been deemed worthy of the “Building of the Year” award in the cultural architecture category of ArchDaily, one of the world’s leading architecture platforms.

After being featured in Architectural Digest’s “2024 Works of Wonder” and subsequently in National Geographic’s “Best of the World” lists, Istanbul Modern has now received another prestigious award. 

Istanbul Modern’s new museum building, designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop founded by Renzo Piano, has won the “Building of the Year” award in the cultural architecture category. The “Building of the Year” is organized annually for the last 15 years by ArchDaily, a leading architectural platform.

Awards are given in 15 different categories and are determined by the platform’s readers based on the qualities of the nominated projects and their service to the community in which they are located. The cultural architecture category includes the most outstanding museums and, arts and culture buildings constructed around the world.

Since its establishment in 2009, this special award has been offered to significant projects worldwide, including the Expo Dubai Brazil Pavilion designed by Ben-Avid, JPG.ARQ, and MMBB Arquitetos in United Arab Emirates (2023); MoAE – the Museum of Art Education of Ningbo designed by Álvaro Siza and Carlos Castanheira in China (2021); the Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech Museum designed by Studio KO in Morocco (2020); the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa designed by Heatherwick Studio in Cape Town, South Africa (2018); and the Elbphilharmonie designed by Herzog & de Meuron in Hamburg, Germany (2017), among others.
